What does a Brow Lift with Dr. Kashaf look like?

Dr. Kashaf and her team of cosmetic specialists love providing patients in the San Diego area with the very best precise, natural looking brow lift surgery, brow rejuvenation, cosmetic brow lift and forehead lift treatment plans. Our doctor has perfected her techniques that leave patients feeling rejuvenated, confident and overall extremely pleased with their healing outcomes. Brow lifts are complex cosmetic surgical procedures that treat and fix multiple conditions and symptoms including but not limited to: raising sagging eyebrows, smoothening deep forehead wrinkles and reducing vertical frown lines. Your board certified cosmetic surgeon will reposition soft tissues in your forehead and brow, and this will then adjust and fix the appearance in those areas. The goal is to create a beautiful, natural and youthful looking expression in the upper face.

If you have the appearance of a low, sagging brow or asymmetry, a brow lift may be the perfect procedure to add a more youthful appearance to the areas of concern. A brow lift can be performed alone or in conjunction with other facial procedures, such as eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) or a face-lift to further enhance the final results. The incisions are typically hidden in the hair line of the head or the brow.

Endoscopic Brow Lifts Address the following goals:

Elevate and lift low or sagging eyebrows or droopy brows
Smoothing horizontal creases & wrinkles across the forehead
Removing and reducing vertical “frown lines” between the eyebrows
Opening up the eye area for a more refreshed and energetic look
Eye area enhancement that reduces heaviness on the upper eyelids
Wrinkle reduction softens and smooths the forehead
Natural positioning that reshapes and restores the natural arch of the brow

Before, During and After a Cosmetic Brow Lift Surgery with the Best Brow Lift Surgeon in San Diego

Deciding to work with a premier, board certified surgeon for endoscopic brow lift and forehead lift surgery like Dr. Kasahf is the first step in achieving the most beautiful, effective and safe surgery plan. During an extensive consultation appointment, Dr. Kashaf partners with each patient to create a timeline, strategy and healing timeline for your browlift surgery. She will walk you through all the steps you can expect and prepare for including Before Browlift Surgery, During Browlift Surgery and After Browlift Surgery.

Before Browlift Surgery:

There is preparation a patient must undergo to prepare for successful cosmetic browlift surgery. The pre-operative stage takes approximately two weeks and may include various safety protocols specific to your case. Please consult with Dr. Kashaf for your customized plan, however the basics include the following. Patients will need to abstain from nicotine use, that is, avoid smoking or vaping. Patients will also need to avoid blood thinners such as aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E and various herbal supplements. You will also need to arrange for a trusted adult to drive to you and from surgery as well as stay with you on the first night, to aid in recovery.

During Browlift Surgery:

A browlift surgery is an outpatient surgery that generally takes 1 to 3 hours. It begins with either local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia. Then, your browlift surgeon will make incisions either behind your hairline or in the scalp area, depending on the type of lift you are getting: Traditional (Coronal) Brow Lift, Temporal Brow Lift, or Endoscopic Brow Lift. At this time, Dr. Kashaf will then work on carefully repositioning the underlying forehead muscles and pull your skin tight, to achieve your desired brow and forehead look. The closing incisions are made with sutures or clips and then a light wrap or drainage may be used to manage the healing process and fluid.

After Browlift Surgery:

Your browlift surgery has an initial downtime of about 1 to 2 weeks and may include various aftercare instructions. Immediately after your surgery, you will have your emergency contact drive you home. For the first few days, you will sleep and rest with your head elevated and use ice or cold compresses to minimize swelling. You must avoid heavy lifting, bending over or other strenuous exercises. After 7 to 10 days, you will return to Dr Kashaf for suture removal. The treated areas will continue to heal over the course of 3 to 6 months with optimal results appearing at month 6.

Four Brow Lift Techniques with Brow Lift Surgeon Dr. Kashaf

Endoscopic Brow Lift:

Endoscopic brow lifts are best for patients with upper-face heaviness and mild to moderate heaviness. For the technique, your board certified surgeon, Dr. Kashaf will make several small incisions about an inch behind the hairline. An endoscope (small camera) and other specialized instruments are inserted to softly release the underlying tissue and muscles. This technique for brow rejuvenation is minimally invasive and leaves no visible scarring on the forehead and maintains your natural hairline.

Traditional (Coronal) Brow Lift:

A traditional eyebrow lift, or a Coronal brow lift, is best suited for individuals with deep forehead furrows and severe eyebrow sagging. Dr. Kashaf, your fellowship trained cosmetic surgeon, will make a single incision from ear-to-ear that is hidden several inches behind the hairline allowing the surgeon to peel back the scalp and reposition the tissue underneath and remove any excess skin and adjust underlying muscles. As it is a highly invasive technique, this procedure is performed under general anesthesia and takes approximately 1-2 hours.  A coronal eyebrow lift can elevate the hairline, so it is discouraged for individuals with a naturally high hairline or thinning hair.

Temporal Brow Lift:

A temporal brow lift, aka a Lateral brow lift is a technique that targets the outer brow and “crow’s feet.” Your surgeon, Dr. Kashaf, will make two small 2-3 in. incisions that will be hidden in the hairline near your temples. Through these small incisions, Dr. Kashaf will gently lift the outer brow and secure it in a higher position to reduce sagging at the outer corners of the eye. The temporal brow lift technique is ideal for candidates experiencing mild to moderate sagging in the outer tail of their eyes. The goals of this technique are to open up the eye area and create a subtle arch as well as smooth crow’s feet.

Hairline (Pretrichial) Brow Lift:

A Hair Line Brow Lift (Pretichial) is ideal for patients with a high or receding hairline. The pretrichial lift has two benefits: Brow Elevation and Forehead reduction. With this moderately invasive approach your Fellowship Trained Cosmetic Surgeon, Dr. Kashaf, will make an incision that follows the natural hairline across the top of the forehead. The placement of the incision allows the surgeon to loosen and lift the forehead skin to smooth out deep lines while raising the eyebrows. The surgeon can also trim away excess skin that can bring the hairline forward about 1 to 1.5 centimeters.

Recovery, Results and Risks of Getting a Brow Lift or Forehead Lifts:

Patients can expect recovery from a brow lift to be in stages. The first 1 to 2 weeks has the most significant symptoms including noticeable swelling and bruising. Over the course of a few months and once stitches are removed, this will decrease significantly. Pain medicination may be given to alleviate some of these uncomfortableness and pain. Results from a brow lift aim to improve your cosmetic appearance and facial anatomy in various ways. You can expect tos see full results in 6 months and be extremely pleased with your cosmetic outlook, natural appearance and confidence. As with any surgery, there are risks and Dr. Kashaf MD will talk through these during the consultation. Risks are minimized when receiving care by a qualified, board certified surgeon, but may carry risks. These rare complications may include temporary numbness and itching, scarring, hair loss, nerve injury, asymmetry or over correction and general surgery risks.

Brow Lift Frequently Asked Questions

What is a brow lift surgery or brow rejuvenation?

A brow lift surgery is a minimally to highly invasive cosmetic procedure that raises sagging eyebrows, reduces forehead wrinkles, and improves eyelid hooding. The most common brow lift surgery techniques are: endoscopic brow lift, temporal brow lift, traditional (coronal) brow lift, and hairline brow lift. Determination for what brow lift surgery approach works best will depend on your anatomy, hairline, and aesthetic goals.

Am I a candidate for a brow lift or forehead lift surgery?

Candidates form brow or forehead lift surgeries are those with noticeable conditions they would like to address: including sagging or dropping brows, deep furrow or wrinkles, forehead muscles strain and other brow concerns. The patient must be in good overall health including being a non-smoker, having no heart disease, lung conditions, no autoimmune disease and no conditions that impair wound healing.

What is the difference between a brow lift and an eyelid lift (blepharoplasty?

While both of these cosmetic procedures revive the upper face, they target different areas. A brow lift specifically addresses the forehead and eyebrow areas of the face. An eyelid lift addresses the skin folds of the upper or lower eyelids. They are different surgeries that you can discuss at our office Dr. Kashaf MD.

How long do brow lift surgery results last?

Brow lift surgeries are meant to have long last results and typically last between 5 and 10 years depending on which technique Dr. Kashaf performs. The endoscopic brow lift will last 5 to 10 years, the coronal and tritrophotic brow lift lasts longer at 10 to 15 years and the temporal (lateral) brow lift lasts 3 to 5 years long. The endoscopic brow lift is minimally invasive and lasts a shorter period whereas the coronal lifts remove more excess skin and give longer-lasting correction.

What is recovery like after a brow lift?

Recovery after a minimally invasive brow lift surgery with a cosmetic surgeon is a relatively easy process, because our doctor has created a beautiful healing protocol. She will send you home with very specific aftercare instructions that will make you feel comfortable at home through ice packs, elevation, pain management and more. Even though you may have swelling and bruising, this will subside very soon. She will make sure you feel comfortable and be there for you every step of the way. Some restrictions may include exercise limitations and reduced sun exposure. However, after 1 to 2 weeks, you can usually return to normal activities.

Will a brow lift leave visible scars?

No! Depending on the technique you receive, a brow lift is actually designed to leave you scars that are expertly hidden within your hairline. The incisions made are typically microscopic and concealed in your hairline. Over the course of healing, they will generally fade and become not noticeable within a few months. There are various instructions to make sure your healing is optimal including avoiding sun, avoiding smoking and others to reduce residual scarring.
