Rhinoplasty is a surgery used to change the shape of the nose. Rhinoplasty can be used to narrow the bridge of the nose, remove a large hump, lift the tip and even address breathing issues.
What is Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty can change bone, cartilage, skin or all three. Consulting with Dr.Kashaf will provide you with a clear outline of the areas that need to be addressed and the techniques that will be used in order to achieve your desired results.
When planning rhinoplasty, Dr.Kashaf will consider your other facial features in order to insure balance and symmetry.
Things to Remember
As with any major surgery, rhinoplasty carries risks such as:
- Bleeding
- Infection
- An adverse reaction to the anesthesia
Other possible risks specific to rhinoplasty may include:
- Difficulty breathing through your nose
- The possibility of an uneven-looking nose
- Pain, discoloration or swelling that may persist
- Scarring
- A need for additional surgery
After Your Surgery
After rhinoplasty surgery you will be required to rest in bed with your head raised higher than your chest. Your nose may be congested because of swelling or from the splints placed inside your nose during surgery.
In most cases, the packing or splint inside the nose will remain in place for one to seven days after surgery. Dr.Kashaf will also tape a splint to your nose for protection and support. This cast will stay on the outside of your nose for one week.
Slight bleeding is common for a few days after the surgery. Dr.Kashaf will provide you with detailed directions for post-op care.
Dr.Kashaf may ask you to:
- Avoid strenuous activities
- Take baths instead of showers while wearing your bandages
- Not to blow your nose
- Avoid extreme facial expressions
- Brush your teeth gently to limit movement of your upper lip
Lastly, don’t wear eyeglasses or sunglasses on your nose for at least four weeks after the surgery. This is to prevent any pressure on your nose that may hinder your healing process.
Temporary swelling and bruising of the eyelids and under eye area can occur for two to three weeks after surgery.
Your nose changes throughout your life whether you have surgery or not. For this reason, it’s difficult to estimate when you will be able to see your final result. The average healing time is 6-12 months.
